Operation Declutter

I crave many things in life, chocolate for example, but one thing I have been "craving" might baffle some, just as it does my husband. What is it that I have been craving? Simple Living! Weird? You might say that. Not weird to live simply, but maybe weird to crave it.

I've read and researched many things. I have found numerous ways along the way that interest and excite me. For instance, the woman in New York whose residence is only 90 sq feet. And of course the "tiny houses" (see one example here).

But these are not practical for life with a three-year-old. One little secret I do have is a desire to live in a hotel. Again, some or most might think I'm crazy, but just think of the simplicity of it. There's not a ton of room so you wouldn't have to worry about having too many things because they wouldn't fit. It gets cleaned for you on a regular basis, the closet is small and would keep you from hanging on to items that will never work for you, only a few toys can be kept on hand which helps for easy cleanup, the majority of your "bills" are compiled into one payment and having a pool on-site would be a great joy for myself and my son.

Since this is not likely to ever happen, it's up to me to turn our current living situation into the simplified version I most desire.

Starting today! We are headed to my son's room for another round of toy and clothing decluttering. We moved about six-months ago and purged many broken and unused toys. Most people that write how-to's on organization suggest you go through your things every six months. So we are right on schedule. There's more broken toys (he is three and a very rowdy boy) and another season has passed us by so warm clothes need stored away for further use or donated.

How can this be green?
-Donating your items can give someone else the chance to purchase them instead of buying new items.
-Being organized will help you know where things are so when they are needed, you won't end up running out to buy more.
-After cleaning out toys, clothes, books, even kitchen supplies, it will help you think twice the next time you are faced with an impulse to buy something if you just donated similar items.
-It will help you have a more peaceful harmony in your home.
